 uca Fiorani\,  ENEA \n\nThe European Commission’s (EC) funding of defe
 nce and security research and development (R&D) has undergone significant 
 changes in recent years. As the global security landscape continues to evo
 lve\, the EC has adapted its funding priorities to address emerging threat
 s and challenges. This seminar aims to stimulate discussion on the current
  trends and future directions of EC defence and security R&D funding. By a
 nalysing the allocation of funds within the European Defence Fund (EDF)\, 
 we identify key areas of focus\, including cybersecurity\, artificial inte
 lligence (AI)\, and chemical\, biological\, radiological and nuclear (CBRN
 ) threats. This preliminary analysis reveals a shift towards more collabor
 ative and dual-use research initiatives aimed at enhancing the EU’s stra
 tegic autonomy and competitiveness in the global defence and security mark
 et. This shift has important implications for policymakers\, industry stak
 eholders and researchers trying to navigate the complex landscape of EU de
